Consulting, Training and Certification Activities of the Explorasport Organization
International Networking, Liason and Coordination
Explorasport, through its representatives and the eeSTAR Consulting Group has been involved in the international process of identifying, understanding and making recommendations to international bodies on the certification process.
These are the early pioneering days of Sustainable Tourism Certification, and many countries and global organizations are involved in moving the process forward. The World Tourism Organization (WTO), the United Nations, the Inter-American Development Bank, The World Bank, and many other international, national, private and NGO organizations are actively involved.
Example: CERTIFICAÇÃO DE SUSTENTABILIDADE DAS ATIVIDADES TURÍSTICAS - CONFERÊNCIA REGIONAL DAS AMÉRICAS
At the 2002 EcoTourism Summit in Quebec City, Explorasport's founder, Philip McMaster, explained the need for, and his plans to develop a team of highly-skilled and qualified auditors to verify the appropriate accreditation of facilities and staff with the emerging eco-labels. In response, a high-ranking official of the World Tourism Organization stated that McMaster had "created a new [complimentary] industry" - serving the need to develop 3rd party objectivity, earn trust in the system from the international consumer's point of view and permit the eco-labels to compete for recognition and marketing power based on their accuracy and brand support.
The process to arrive at international cooperation as well as the selection, harmonization and matching of over 100 EcoLabels worldwide is a daunting task. To bring international certification closer to reality, Explorasport and the eeSTAR Consulting Group have continued to meet with international leaders, academics, operators and the EcoLabel developers to map out strategies to achieve everyone's goal - international profits and attention directed toward tourism organizations operating sustainably.
